Question

I am attempting to install VisualAge C++ Professional
Version 4.0 for Windows NT on a machine running Windows
2000. The installation hangs just after the "Please wait
while setup checks the system" message box is displayed.
The Task Manager shows processes "_INS5176._MP" and "_isdel.exe"



Answer

Before you attempt installation of VisualAge C++ 4.0 on
Windows 2000, make sure to download VisualAge C++ 4.0
Fixpak 3 (141 MB，  ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com /ps/products/
visualagecpp/fixes/v40win/english-us/fixpak3/cpp403.zip )
and set up patch file w2kcpp.zip ( http://www-1.ibm.com/
support/manager.wss?rt=4&org=S W&doc=1007529&aid=1 ).
The Fixpak solves several issues, starting with the
VisualAge C++ 4.0 IDE, when using the product on Windows 2000.



Step-by-step installation procedure is as follows:



(Example assumes that temporary directory is " C:\Temp ",
CD-ROM drive letter is " D: ", and VisualAge C++ 4.0 target
installation directory is " C:\IBMCPPW 40 ")



Unzip the content of "w2kcpp.zip" to "C:\Temp"

Insert IBM VisualAge C++ 4.0 for Windows NT installation
CD into CD-ROM drive.

 If autorun activates VisualAge 4.0 Setup dialog, close it.

Open DOS command line window and change directory to
"C:\Temp" Type " setupcpp C:\Temp D: C:\IBMCPPW40 " at
DOS prompt. Installation process starts. DO NOT close
DOS command line window yet. After installation completes

 you will be prompted to restart your computer. DO NOT restart
at this time (C lick "No, I will restart my computer later").
Go back to DOS command line and press any key to continue
Go back to DOS command line and press any key to continue
patching.

After patching is finished close DOS window, remove VisualAge
C++ 4.0 CD from CD-ROM drive, and restart your computer.
Start VisualAge C++ 4.0 Fixpak 3 setup. Fixpak 3 setup will
first uninstall most of the VisualAge C++ 4.0 original
installation. After uninstall procedure is completed,
Fixpak 3 will copy its files to your hard-drive (VisualAge
C++ 4.0 installation directory).

Restart your computer when finished.



The procedure above may take between 20 - 45 minutes,
depending on the configuration and speed of your computer.
