A system used by space shuttle Columbia for steering during its critical
landing phase failed a pre-landing test Saturday. The shuttle's three auxiliary
power units (APU) are used to power the rudder and steering surfaces on the
shuttle's wings, as well as shuttle's brakes. Only one of Columbia's APU's
failed the test. NASA officials say the shuttle should be able to land safely
with the remaining two APU's, but landing procedures may be changed.
