Job Description:
HP Labs China offers internship opportunities for current Master students, Ph.
D students, and recent graduates who presently hold a post-doc positions in gr
audate schools. These positions are located in Beijing, China. The internship
positions are usually between three months to a year. We are looking for stude
nts or graduates with some of the following background: scalable database and
information management, content management, web services and service oriented
architecture, data mining, optimization and algorithms, parallel and distribut
ed information management, clustered computer and file systems, workflow techn
ologies, and software development.
Research interns participate in technical research projects at the Lab. Exper
t in your chosen technology, you'll explore and develop opportunities, evaluat
e state of the art in literature, products, and tools, investigate, integrate,
develop, define and validate models. You may also have opportunities to inter
act with customers to discover real-world problems.
Innovation is key as you will have the opportunity to be involved in the desig
n and development of prototypes and new software products and tools. You will
also play a role in proving new concepts or assuring quality of the solutions
.
Required Profile:
Education
Currently pursuing a Master’s or Ph.D. degree, or currently holding a post-do
c position at a university, major in a technical discipline (e.g. computer sci
ence, information technology, engineering, math, etc.)
Experience and knowledge
Experience includes software system research and development to create innovat
ive solutions. Knowledge of all phases of software life cycle (definition thr
ough production) is helpful.
Expertise in the following area will be very helpful: scalable database and in
formation management, content management, web services and service oriented ar
chitecture, data mining, optimization and algorithms, parallel and distributed
information management, clustered computer and file systems, workflow technol
ogies, and software development.

blem definition, research agenda formulation, and the delivery and documentati
on of innovations, new software and/or solutions. Expert in your chosen techno
logy, you'll explore and develop opportunities, evaluate state of the art in l
iterature, products, and tools, investigate, integrate, develop, define and va
lidate models. You'll also interact with customers on multiple projects.

An R&D manager leads technical research project teams through problem definiti
on, research agenda formulation, and the delivery and documentation of innovat
ions, new software and/or solutions. Expert in your chosen technology, you'll
explore and develop opportunities, evaluate state of the art in literature, pr
oducts, and tools, articulate business benefits to sponsors, investigate, inte
grate, develop, define and validate models, and motivate and manage a producti
ve team of technical researchers. You'll also interact with customers on multi
ple projects.
Required Profile:
Education
Ph.D. (post graduate) degree in a Computer Science-related technical disciplin
e (e.g. computer science, information technology, computer engineering, math,
etc.)
Experience and knowledge
Two or more years of experience in software system research and development to
create innovative solutions in an industrial R&D Lab is required. Experience
with system development and developing technologies into a product are strong
ly preferred. Expert knowledge of all phases of software life cycle (definitio
n through production) is helpful. Additional experience in R&D leadership and
management are also strongly preferred.
Experience in working in a Chinese academic environment (teaching, leading res
earch projects, etc) and abilities to recruit and mentor Chinese university re
searchers are helpful.
Expertise in scalable database and information management, web services and se
rvice oriented architecture, grid computing, XML messaging, computer system se
curity, business process management or workflow technologies is essential.
